My little boy is turning 5 next month, so I thought it would be fun to make a cute invitation for his party.  I thought that a jungle theme would be perfect for a 5th birthday party.  This homemade birthday invitation idea would work great for either a boy or a girl.

My Avery loves giraffes, so when I saw this cute giraffe print paper while at Michael’s, I just had to get it!

That print was the inspiration for this invitation and the theme of the party.  What little boy (or girl) doesn’t like wild animals??   What a fun party it will be if all his little friends show up ready to go on a safari!

In keeping with the jungle and safari theme, I needed a couple other colors to accent the giraffe print.  When I saw the orange, it was perfect!  The dark brown was a no-brainer because I knew it would coordinate well with the print.

I still needed a paper that I could use as a text layer, but I didn’t want to completely cover up the giraffe print with another solid, so finding this parchment style paper worked great!  You can read the text, but you can also see the print behind it.

I was going to use some ribbon to tie it all together, but I decided that Avery just isn’t a ribbon kind of guy, so instead I used these orange metal brads.  They work great because they pull the orange color from the other orange paper and they look much more masculine than a ribbon would.

While typing the text, I wanted Avery’s name to stand out, so I printed it in bright orange while keeping the rest of the text dark brown.  I also added these clipart characters that I found on my printshop program.  I don’t usually use clipart on my invitations because sometimes they come across tacky, but in this case it was okay since it was for a soon-to-be 5 year old and it fit with the theme of the party.

Once the invitation was all done, my son was thrilled with it!  Now he really can’t wait to turn 5!
