A couple years ago, I was hosting a baby shower for my husband’s nephew, so obviously I needed to make the invitations. The different thing about this baby shower was that the baby, his nephew, was already born. This trend of waiting until the baby is born is becoming more popular with couples. So, rather than the standard invitation wording of “honoring the mother”, I had to make sure we were honoring the baby as well as the mother!
This is the design I came up with. It’s a fairly simple design that takes no time at all to make!
Begin by cutting the striped paper to a size of 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″. This will be the overall size of the invitation.
The next step is designing a text layout. I always use my printshop program, but you can use any program that you are comfortable with and that is easy to use. Start by choosing a horizontal page layout. Create a text box on the left side of the paper. You can now design the layout of your text. I used this wording for this invitation…
“Please join us…
Mack Anthony Calhoun
has arrived and we will be showering him
and his parents,
Jeff and Lacey
with gifts fit for a little prince!”
I finished off with the remaining information for the party. I also made sure to leave room for the ribbon through the center. I printed this text in black ink, but it would also look great if you printed in blue ink or just highlighted the names in blue ink.
Once you have a layout that will work good, copy and paste that text block to the right side and print it out on the white cardstock. You will get two text sheets from one sheet of paper.
Next, cut the text sheet to a size of 7-1/2″x 4-1/2″. Take a length of ribbon and wrap it around the center of the white cardstock and tie a double knot.
Using scrapbook mounting squares, attach the white cardstock to the striped paper. Make sure to keep it centered. You don’t want it to look sloppy!
That’s it! This is such an easy invitation to make that looks great and is perfect for any baby shower for a boy!
I’d love to hear some ideas that you’ve used for your invitations! Leave me a comment or two!
